What is a Split System?

Unlike the old box units (aka ‘window rattlers’), split system air conditioning is synonymous with modern heating and cooling at home. Boasting simple installation, quiet operation, and energy efficiency; it’s no wonder that split systems are one of the most popular options on the market today.

Split systems get their name because the system is split into two separate units. The outdoor unit (called the condenser) contains all the coils, compressors, fans, and other important elements that help your system to run. The indoor unit (the head or the evaporator) will be wall or floor mounted and operated using a remote control. This is the part of the system that blows out fresh cool air and filtered warm air. With a multi-head split system, you can have indoor units in multiple rooms that are all powered using one outdoor unit.

Split System wall mounted air conditioner how they work

There are 5 different types according to your specific needs, and we can help you in choosing the right one:

  • Wall mounted: The most commonly used system, this involves a unit being mounted to the top of the wall closest to the ceiling
  • Bulkhead: When wall space is limited or a property has concrete ceilings, a bulkhead unit may be used instead
  • Ceiling cassette: Rather than being mounted on the wall, a ceiling cassette is fitted into the ceiling. Ideal for properties with very limited (or no) wall space)
  • Console: This unit can either be installed on the floor or the ceiling, and is typically most appropriate for commercial buildings as it has a high airflow
  • Floor standing: These units are incredibly compact and sit on the floor, perfect for spaces without much room at all

If you want an air conditioner that can heat or cool rooms in your home or business, consider an innovative reverse cycle split system from Electrical Embassy. Reverse cycle systems boast impressive technology that allows you to heat your home in winter and cool your home in summer using the one system.

Why A Choose Split System Air Conditioning System?

Split systems are modern in appearance and efficient in terms of operation. You can expect your unit to be whisper quiet and eco-friendly. Split systems do not require any ductwork to be installed, meaning they are suitable for practically any space and can be installed by our experts in no time at all.

3 Types Of Wall Mounted Spit System Installation

Back to back – A back to back split system installation for air conditioning is the easiest type of installation. This type of installation will have the outdoor compressor unit and the wall mount unit located on opposite sides of the wall. The compressor is on the outside and the wall unit on the inside.

The up and over – this type of installation has a little more involved. The indoor unit with be mounted on an internal wall, the interconnecting refrigeration pipes will be run up through the ceiling and over rooms in the house. The pipes then lead towards where the outdoor unit is located.

Side entry installation – This type of installation has the indoor unit positioned in the corner so the pipes can lead out the side of the indoor unit to the outdoor unit on the other side of the wall. Commonly onto a balcony area.
